About me
My name is Laura and I’m a Full Stack AI Engineer at Doodle in Zurich, Switzerland (since 2026), where I build multilingual NLP and data systems for time creation.
Before that, I was a Postdoctoral Researcher (2023–2025) at the Idiap Research Institute in Martigny, Switzerland, supervised by Lonneke van der Plas, where I led the SEM24 Innosuisse project on multilingual, explainable skill extraction for HR recommender systems.
I did my PhD (2020–2024) at The University of Manchester within the National Centre of Text Mining (NaCTeM) supervised by Prof. Sophia Ananiadou and co-supervised by Nhung T.H. Nguyen, Matthew Shardlow and Piotr Przybyła. My main areas of research in Natural Language Processing (NLP) were document-level Text Simplification, Readability Assessment, Multilinguality and the Evaluation of Natural Language Generation.
Earlier in my career I spent nine years (2011–2020) in industry as a Software Engineer at Intel Costa Rica, where I also worked as a Scrum Master and Product Owner, and led STEM outreach programmes.
